You know those seasons—well, maybe more often than not—when motherhood feels like it’s just go, go, go? We juggle kids, meals, work, laundry, appointments, errands… and sometimes we forget that we’re not meant to run on empty. Sound familiar?
Lately, our Sundays have felt like just another extension of the week—packed full and anything but restful. But last Sunday, when I finally crawled into bed, I turned to Jimmy and said, “Next Sunday is going to be a day of rest.” I meant it. We needed to hit pause, to reconnect as a family and to slow down. I needed to rest and I know Jimmy did too.
After a long week filled with new appointments and the usual chaos of life, I knew our souls needed rest. Not just physical rest, but space to breathe, to be present and to connect with each other.
So this past Sunday, we did just that. After church, Jimmy and the kids stayed for a luncheon while I came home for a little quiet time and a short meal prep session. When they got home, Jimmy and I finished meal prepping together—something we actually love doing side by side. The kids played outside and later we all sat down to one game of Phase10 (which somehow lasted hours), but we laughed, we connected and we made memories.
We ended the day with dinner and conversation—no rushing, no deadlines, no stress.
After dinner Jimmy and I got set up for the week. Planning my week helps make my week go smoother. Being aligned with our goals and schedule helps us connect as a couple and work together on homeschooling.
This whole shift came from a devotion Jimmy and I read recently that reminded us about the importance of true rest. The kind of rest God calls us to take. A Sabbath rest.
So we’ve decided to intentionally reclaim Sundays as our Sabbath—a day to rest, to reset and to be fully present with God and with each other.
It doesn’t have to look perfect. It just has to be intentional.
Maybe you’ve been feeling that nonstop pace too. Maybe your soul is craving rest, but you don’t know how to start. Here’s your gentle reminder: you’re allowed to rest. You were created to rest. And your family needs it just as much as you do.
Trust me this day was just amazing for our family. The kids asked if we could have more Sundays like this. I was like absolutely.
So let this be your encouragement—set the boundary, make the space, and reclaim your Sabbath. 🩷
