Breaking the Cycle of Overwhelm

💗 Blog #3 in the “From Mom Guilt to Peaceful Rhythms” Series

There was a season where everything felt overwhelming—and I knew I had to make changes.
But I didn’t know where to start.

I thought I had to change everything all at once: the schedule, the routines, my mindset, my attitude.
But instead of finding happiness and peace, I stayed stuck in survival mode—burned out, overwhelmed and frustrated that nothing was changing

Then I learned something that changed everything:
I don’t need to fix it all.
I just need to start with one small shift.

The Weight of Overwhelm Is Real

Overwhelm in motherhood isn’t always loud or dramatic.

Most of the time, it’s the quiet, constant pressure of trying to hold it all together—while keeping a smile on your face.

It’s making 4,000 micro-decisions a day while navigating meltdowns, emotions, appointments, laundry and everyone’s questions.

I’ve had days where I’ve thought:

  • “I’m doing so much… and it’s still not enough.”
  • “Why does this feel harder than it should?”
  • “I can’t even figure out what to fix—everything feels broken.”

If you’ve ever felt that way, I want you to know:

You’re not lazy. You’re not failing. You’re just carrying too much.

How One Small Shift Changed Everything

For me, the change didn’t come from an overhaul.

It started with one thing: a morning reset.

I was already doing a nightly reset, so this felt like the right next step.

Just five minutes of intention:

  • wiping down the counters
  • making beds
  • starting a load of laundry
  • choosing to begin the day with calm instead of chaos.

It wasn’t magical—but it gave me just enough breathing room.
And once I had that margin, I found the motivation to build a few more small habits.

Small shifts build momentum.
And peace begins to return—not all at once, but enough to feel it.

Try One of These Simple Shifts This Week

Not sure where to start? Here are a few rhythms that help lighten the load:

🍴 Meal plan weekly. Simplicity is sanity.
🕰️ Set a 15-minute reset timer after school or dinner.
🌳 Go outside (with or without the kids) for 10 minutes—even if the house is a mess.
🛑 Say “no” to one thing this week that drains you or doesn’t serve your family.
☕ Create a “be still” moment. I like to regroup each afternoon with a few quiet minutes and something warm to drink.

Letting Go of the Pressure to Do It All

You’re not behind. You’re not lazy.
You don’t need a color-coded chart (even though they’re pretty).
You don’t need a new productivity system.

You need space.
To breathe.
To think.
To remember who you are underneath the pressure.

Start with one small shift. And let that be enough for now.

Final Thoughts 💗

You don’t need to become a brand-new mom overnight.
You don’t have to have it all figured out by Friday.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, try asking:

“What’s one thing I could shift this week to feel a little lighter?”

I ask myself that question on Sundays—and it’s helped me enter the week with more peace.

Because small things, done consistently, can change everything.
