Christmas is the most magical time of year…but it can also feel like a lot.
Between homeschool, activities, family plans, therapy days, Christmas shopping, traveling and the extra everything of this season — it’s no wonder moms feel so overwhelmed during the busiest time of the year.
It is the expectations, the pressure we put on ourselves, the tasks and the mental load we carry.
But here’s what we forget as moms. It’s not about doing more, it’s actually about doing things with intention.
Here’s how I started December. I’m not worried about the perfect calendar, making sure everything is perfect. Instead I’m worried about simple rhythms and routines that help bring me peace and keep me grounded.
4 Simple Rhythms to Begin December Calmly
Presence. Peace. Practical rhythms — nothing complicated.
1. Choose ONE 15-Minute Daily Reset
Not an entire system. Not a whole list. Just one small reset that helps your home breathe again.
Ideas:
-
kitchen reset
-
vacuuming the floors
-
tidying the main room
-
quick bathroom reset
Set a timer for 15 minutes and see what gets done.
You’ll be surprised — 15 minutes truly does make a difference.
This is how we maintain our home all year long, and it works especially well in December.
2. Choose ONE Weekly Anchor
This is the one rhythm that steadies your whole week.
You could choose:
-
a Sunday reset
-
a Friday tidy
-
a weekly fridge clean-out
-
a meal prep day
-
a meal planning morning
It doesn’t need to be big — just consistent.
A simple meal plan or quick meal prep day can save so much time during a busy week. Instead of running to the store multiple times or hitting the drive-thru, you already know what’s for dinner (or have it prepped).
3. A 5-Minute Nightly Prep
This one changes your mornings.
Each night:
-
set out dishes or mugs
-
prep your morning drink
-
lay out your clothes
-
jot down your top 3 for tomorrow
Five minutes at night = a calmer morning tomorrow.
4. One Load of Laundry a Day
This is my biggest laundry hack. Our laundry is never backed up.
-
start a load of laundry a day
-
fold it later in the day
-
put clothes away
-
jot down your top 3 for tomorrow
Let Go of the Pressure — Choose What Actually Matters
You don’t need to do it all.
Maybe instead of baking 5 kinds of cookies, bake 2–3.
Don’t feel pressured to do every activity — pick a few that matter.
Don’t worry about creating a “perfect December.”
Choose:
-
connection over chaos
-
space to breathe
-
time with your family
-
routines over perfection
Your kids won’t remember a perfectly styled house — but they will remember the feeling inside it.
If You Want a Calmer December…You Don’t Have to Do It Alone
If December already feels heavy, friend… I get it. I’ve been there. It’s not a fun place to live.
That’s exactly why I created The Simplified Home and Simplify the Chaos — to help moms build simple rhythms and routines that make their home (and the holidays) feel lighter.
These aren’t “do more” programs.
They’re “take things off your plate, simplify what matters, and breathe again” programs.
Start this month with simple rhythms — and build a calm foundation you can actually enjoy.

You deserve a December rooted in peace, not pressure.
Let’s build it together. 💗
