Finding Joy in Each Day (Even When It’s Hard)

Some days feel full of purpose, goodness and energy. Other days feel really hard.

And some days feel like the same thing over and over again — laundry, cooking, dishes, school.

It’s easy to feel joy when the days are exciting and fun.
Maybe joy feels easier when the house is cleaned, meals are prepped and the to-do list is finished.

But I’ve learned something slowly over the years…

Joy isn’t found in perfect days.
Joy is something that lives inside of us.

There Are Hard Days…

There are days I feel overwhelmed.
Days I lose patience.
Days I want to hide in my room for five minutes of quiet.

But even those days still hold joy.

Not because they’re easy.
But because God is in each and every day. He is with us.

I love Psalm 118:24:

“This is the day the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
— Psalm 118:24

It doesn’t say rejoice when everything goes right.
It says rejoice in this day.

Rejoice in the vacuuming.
Rejoice in the meals you’re cooking.
Rejoice in the messy house.
Rejoice even on the hard days.

Joy Lives in Small Moments

I’ve started looking for joy in tiny places:

  • The first sip of coffee before school starts

  • Laughing with my family

  • A quiet prayer whispered while wiping the counter

  • Watching the sunrise or the sunset

Joy isn’t always loud. Some days it’s quiet.

We can miss it if we don’t slow down and look for it.
If we rush from one task to the next.
If we let the hard days take over our perspective.

Joy Is a Choice (Not Just a Mood)

I used to think joy would come naturally when life felt calm or when everything was going great.

But joy isn’t just a mood — it’s a posture. It’s found inside of us.

It’s choosing gratitude when I could complain.
It’s choosing presence instead of scrolling. (I actually gave up TikTok and rarely scroll anymore in the “Gram)
It’s choosing to thank God for what is, instead of wishing for what isn’t.

“The joy of the Lord is your strength.”
— Nehemiah 8:10

Joy strengthens us.
It shifts our focus.
It reminds us of what we have instead of what we don’t have.

Sometimes joy begins with simply saying,
“Thank You, God, for this day.”

If You’re Struggling to Feel Joy

Remember, we have so much to be thankful for.

When we focus on our relationship with God, that is where lasting joy comes from. It’s not about pretending everything is perfect. It’s not about ignoring the hard things.

You can hold joy and hardship in the same hand.

Is it always easy? No.
But when we choose joy, even in small ways, it does make things lighter.

We learn to trust God more deeply.
We lean on Him instead of ourselves.

Start small:
Notice one good thing.
Say one thank you.
Pause for one deep breath.

Joy often begins with stopping and being thankful.

Joy doesn’t require a different season.
It doesn’t require a different version of you.

It just requires noticing that God is there.

Right in your day.
Right in your kitchen.
Right in your motherhood.

And that is enough 🤍

Love and Joy,
