đ Blog #3 in the âFrom Mom Guilt to Peaceful Rhythmsâ Series
There was a season where everything felt overwhelmingâand I knew I had to make changes.
But I didnât know where to start.
I thought I had to change everything all at once: the schedule, the routines, my mindset, my attitude.
But instead of finding happiness and peace, I stayed stuck in survival modeâburned out, overwhelmed and frustrated that nothing was changing
Then I learned something that changed everything:
I donât need to fix it all.
I just need to start with one small shift.
The Weight of Overwhelm Is Real
Overwhelm in motherhood isnât always loud or dramatic.
Most of the time, itâs the quiet, constant pressure of trying to hold it all togetherâwhile keeping a smile on your face.
Itâs making 4,000 micro-decisions a day while navigating meltdowns, emotions, appointments, laundry and everyoneâs questions.
Iâve had days where Iâve thought:
- âIâm doing so much⌠and itâs still not enough.â
- âWhy does this feel harder than it should?â
- âI canât even figure out what to fixâeverything feels broken.â
If youâve ever felt that way, I want you to know:
Youâre not lazy. Youâre not failing. Youâre just carrying too much.
How One Small Shift Changed Everything
For me, the change didnât come from an overhaul.
It started with one thing: a morning reset.
I was already doing a nightly reset, so this felt like the right next step.
Just five minutes of intention:
- wiping down the counters
- making beds
- starting a load of laundry
- choosing to begin the day with calm instead of chaos.
It wasnât magicalâbut it gave me just enough breathing room.
And once I had that margin, I found the motivation to build a few more small habits.
Small shifts build momentum.
And peace begins to returnânot all at once, but enough to feel it.
Try One of These Simple Shifts This Week
Not sure where to start? Here are a few rhythms that help lighten the load:
đ´ Meal plan weekly. Simplicity is sanity.
đ°ď¸ Set a 15-minute reset timer after school or dinner.
đł Go outside (with or without the kids) for 10 minutesâeven if the house is a mess.
đ Say ânoâ to one thing this week that drains you or doesnât serve your family.
â Create a âbe stillâ moment. I like to regroup each afternoon with a few quiet minutes and something warm to drink.
Letting Go of the Pressure to Do It All
Youâre not behind. Youâre not lazy.
You donât need a color-coded chart (even though theyâre pretty).
You donât need a new productivity system.
You need space.
To breathe.
To think.
To remember who you are underneath the pressure.
Start with one small shift. And let that be enough for now.
Final Thoughts đ
You donât need to become a brand-new mom overnight.
You donât have to have it all figured out by Friday.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, try asking:
âWhatâs one thing I could shift this week to feel a little lighter?â
I ask myself that question on Sundaysâand itâs helped me enter the week with more peace.
Because small things, done consistently, can change everything.
