The holidays are magical — but they’re also busy.
Between homeschool, therapies, activities, work, getting ready for Christmas, and everything in between, mornings can feel a little… chaotic.
And if you have growing kids like mine (9, 11, and 13), breakfast feels like an event. They wake up hungry — again — and it can feel like feeding a small army before 9 a.m. (Especially with my son in a growth spurt who somehow needs two breakfasts!)
But here’s what I’ve learned over the years:
💗 The holidays are already full — your mornings don’t have to start in chaos.
When I started simplifying our breakfasts — planning ahead, prepping a few things on weekends and repeating what works — everything felt easier and calmer.
1. A Calm Morning Starts the Night Before
I used to think calm mornings just happened, but the truth is, they start the night before.
A quick kitchen reset and a little prep go a long way:
- Set out the breakfast dishes or mugs.
- Prep my morning energy drink (or coffee) so it’s ready to go.
- Make sure there’s something easy to grab — especially for my always-hungry crew.
It doesn’t take long, but it makes a huge difference when the next morning rolls around.
💬 “Peaceful mornings don’t come from perfection — they come from preparation.”
- Keep It Simple — and Feed the Hunger
I used to stress about variety, trying to be the “fun breakfast mom.”
Now, I focus on simple, hearty meals that actually fill my kids up and keep them going through lessons, therapies, and the day ahead.
Here are a few of our go-tos (recipes coming soon!):
- Overnight Oats – with extra toppings (peanut butter, fruit, or chocolate chips).
- Egg Muffins or Bites – loaded with protein and veggies, perfect for reheating.
- Breakfast Burritos – freeze them so the kids can grab and warm up themselves.
- Pumpkin Bread or Cranberry Scones – cozy seasonal treats that pair perfectly with egg muffins.
- Sheet Pan Pancakes – one of my all-time favorites to make and freeze.
- Weekend Pancakes or Waffles – I double the batch, freeze extras and reheat during the week.
(And yes, sometimes we have pancakes for breakfast and lunch — pj’s and all!)
Pro Tip: If you’re already cooking, double one recipe for the freezer — future you (and your future hungry kids) will thank you.
- Make Breakfast Prep Part of the Weekend Reset
Every weekend, I spend a few minutes prepping breakfast for the week — just like I do laundry, groceries or quick home resets. It’s part of our rhythm and the kids even help often.
Here’s what that looks like:
- Make one egg dish like an egg casserole, sheet pan pancakes, overnight oats or egg muffins.
- Cook sausage or bacon ahead for easy protein (and sometimes toss the extras into mac and cheese for lunch).
- Chop fruit for grab-and-go parfaits or smoothie packs.
It’s simple, but it keeps everyone fed without me cooking from scratch every morning.
- Add a Little Cozy to Your Mornings
Even in the busy season, I want our mornings to feel calm and cozy — not rushed.
Some mornings we:
- Light a candle while we eat breakfast.
- Put on quiet Christmas music.
- Use our favorite holiday mugs or plates.
The holidays go by fast. I want my kids to remember not just the food, but the feeling — peaceful, connected and full of warmth.
- Simplify to Bring Back the Joy
