Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts about life, momlife, business and my relationship with God. One podcast really got me thinking— She was talking about God being the CEO of your business and surrendering your day to God.
I do surrender things to God, but to do it daily was hard, because I might have a control problem. If you’re a mom you probably like to be in control too, so you’re not alone. I like to have plans and know what is coming. When I don’t have a plan I think of the Friends episode when Monica, Rachel and Phoebe were talking about plans and Phoebe says “I don’t even have a Pl”. Here’s the thing: I can have a plan, a to-do list and goals, but what I need to do is give them to God daily. I need to meet with God daily.
But something about that podcast stayed with me.
I knew what I needed to do and it needed to be daily.
Each morning, after my devotions, I began surrendering my day—my plans, my schedule and my goals—to God. I also started doing it again later, right before we began homeschool and I sat down to work.
And something unexpected happened.
What I Noticed When I Let Go of Control
One night, as I was journaling and writing down what I was grateful for, I realized something.
I wasn’t overwhelmed.
I wasn’t stressed like I usually am.
Some days, I wasn’t stressed at all.
That surprised me. I was just sitting there dwelling on this. Surrendering my days was changing me.
When I started giving my days, plans and goals to God—and saying, “You’re in control, not me”—something began to change inside of me.
I felt more joy. More peace. More patience.
Surrender Isn’t Just A One-and-Done Things
What I learned is that surrendering isn’t something you do once in the morning or once a week and move on.
Throughout the day, when I start to feel overwhelmed or stressed, I stop and talk to God. I don’t care where I am. I’ll pause, close my eyes and ask Him for strength and peace.
Sometimes that prayer sounds like:
“God, I’m trying to take control again. Please forgive me. Here—You take it. I don’t want it.”
And every time God meets me where I am.
How Surrendering Has Changed in Me
What I’ve also found is that I’m growing closer to God than ever before. I’m relying on His strength instead of my own—and that has changed everything.
I have a peace that truly surpasses all understanding.
I don’t always understand why things happen the way they do.
I don’t always know what the day will bring.
But trusting God and His plan has changed me. And I’m walking forward with a faith I haven’t experienced before.
Encouragement for You
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed or exhausted by trying to hold everything together, I want to encourage you to try this.
Don’t wait for tomorrow morning, instead di it now:
“God, I give You my day. My plans. My expectations. You’re in control.”
And then come back to that prayer whenever you need to.
You don’t have to carry it all. God is there to carry it with us.
Love and Support,
Billie-Jo
