The Simplified Fall Reset: Getting Your Home Ready for the New Season
Fall is my favorite season. The weather starts to shift, routines settle in after summer and there’s a natural sense of starting fresh.
But let’s be honest — as a mom, this is also the busiest time of year. Between school schedules, sports and activities, and holidays right around the corner, it’s easy to feel like our homes are running us instead of the other way around.
That’s why I love doing a Fall Reset.
It’s not about overhauling everything or doing a “Pinterest perfect” deep clean.
It’s about small, simple steps that make your home feel calm and ready for the season ahead.
Step 1: Clear the Summer Clutter
Before the pumpkins and cozy blankets come out, I take 15 minutes to:
-
Put away swimsuits, pool gear, beach towels and anything else related to summer.
-
Donate summer clothes the kids outgrew (which I need to do again!).
-
Toss anything broken or worn out (like toys, flip-flops and water bottles).
It doesn’t take long, but it instantly makes space for the new season. When I’m going through things, I like to remind myself: when in doubt, throw it out.
Step 2: Swap Out Seasonal Touches
I’m not talking about redecorating the whole house — just a few simple swaps:
-
A fall-scented candle or essential oil.
-
A cozy throw blanket on the couch.
-
A small pumpkin on the table or entryway.
I used to go all out with fall décor, but now I prefer simple touches. It’s amazing how just a few small changes can shift the whole mood in your home.
Step 3: Refresh Your Kitchen Rhythm
Fall schedules can get hectic fast. To keep meals simple, I:
-
Rotate in more crockpot, one pot meals and sheet pan dinners.
-
Prep snacks ahead for busy afternoons.
-
Meal prep easy dinners so evenings are smoother.
-
Make freezer meals for those extra crazy weeks.
-
Prep a few freeze-ahead crockpot meals to dump in on busy mornings.
💡 Pro tip: start doubling one recipe a week — future you will thank you when dinner’s already waiting in the freezer. I even stockpile breakfasts this way, and it saves me so much stress during busy seasons.
Step 4: Reset the Family Routine
Summer often means later nights and looser days. Fall is the time to bring back structure:
-
Earlier bedtimes (for the kids and me).
-
Morning and evening resets (just 10–15 minutes each).
-
One weekend reset to prep the whole family for the week.
✨ Pro tip: If you don’t do resets yet, start with an evening reset. You’ll wake up happier — you can thank me later.
Step 5: Do a Quick Home Maintenance Check
This one is easy to overlook, but it saves stress later:
-
Change the air filters.
-
Check flashlights and batteries (especially before daylight savings ends).
-
Wash or replace entryway rugs to handle extra dirt and leaves.
-
Create a space for jackets, boots, and backpacks (if you live in a colder area).
-
Schedule an HVAC check before the weather really shifts.
💗 Friend, a Fall Reset doesn’t have to be complicated.
It’s about making small, intentional shifts so your home feels ready for the season — and you feel less overwhelmed as you step into it.
