You Were Never Meant to Do It All: Creating Space for What Matters Most
When I became a mom, I felt a heavy pressure that so many of us carry — the pressure to do it all, be it all, manage it all — and make it look easy.
I used to believe that if I just organized my time better, worked a little harder or stayed up a little later, I could finally keep up.
But no matter how much I tried, that feeling and pressure stayed:
I’m running out of time. I’m falling behind. I’m not doing enough. I’m failing as a mom.
I finally stepped back and asked God to help me see things differently — and that’s when I realized: I was chasing something I was never meant to catch. It was like God had been trying to tell me this for a long time.
We were never meant to do it all. I needed to choose carefully, to steward my time intentionally, and to create space for what matters most.
The Pressure to Do It All Was Never Mine to Carry
Somewhere along the way, the world convinced us that a “good mom” should be able to juggle everything perfectly — perfect homes, healthy meals, thriving kids, full schedules and a smile on our face.
But what I was reminded of is that this expectation was never God’s design.
God doesn’t call us to exhaustion. He calls us to faithfulness.
In Ephesians 5:15–16, we’re reminded:
“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” (NIV)
It’s not about doing more.
It’s about being smart about our choices — something I talk about daily with my kiddo.
It’s about making the most of the time, energy, and opportunities He gives us — not trying to squeeze a thousand things into every day.
It’s about slowing down.
When I live like everything is urgent and everything depends on me, I’m really missing the beauty of what God has actually placed in front of me.
When I think about the end of 2024, I realize I let so many things take up my headspace and my time that I missed out on what was truly important.
Intentional Living Over Perfect Time Management
For a long time, I believed that if I could just find the right system, planner, or routine, I would finally feel on top of everything.
I thought managing my time perfectly was the answer to my overwhelm.
But the harder I tried to control every minute, the more anxious, exhausted, and defeated I felt.
God gently showed me that life isn’t about managing time perfectly — it’s about stewarding it intentionally.
I had to start being more intentional with my time.
Intentional living means I don’t say yes to everything.
It means I pause and ask:
Is this the best use of my time, energy and attention in this season?
Is this what God is actually asking me to carry — or am I picking up things He never asked me to?
I learned I needed to shift my mindset, and it has truly helped me let go of perfectionism.
I stopped cramming our schedule full.
I started creating space for what matters — time with my family, my faith, my health, and rest.
It stopped being about doing more.
It actually became about doing less — on purpose.
Simplifying Creates Space for What Matters Most
When I finally stopped chasing the impossible goal of “doing it all,” I realized something powerful:
Simplifying isn’t about giving up — it’s really about making more room for the things that truly matter.
By letting go of the pressure to manage every minute perfectly, I could be more intentional with my family.
When I stopped trying to fill every moment with busyness, I found space to actually live, breathe, and enjoy this life God has given me.
Simplifying my time, my home, and my routines didn’t make me less productive —
it made me more faithful to what God was really calling me to steward: my relationships, my health, my time, and my purpose.
I know how hard it is to choose less when the world shouts for us to do more.
But every small step toward simplicity is a step toward living with intention — and building a life that reflects what matters most.
A life that has peace, calm, and happiness.
A life that I can truly enjoy — and so can you.
This is the journey I’m walking now —
and I’m so excited to share more about what that looks like in the days ahead.
You were never meant to do it all, friend.
You were meant to live wisely, intentionally, and joyfully — creating space for what matters most. 💗
